19 Sept 1820 Hugh Robertson Revolutionary War Pension Application Superior Court Buckingham County, Virginia

Age 69 enlisted as a Private 1778-1776 in Capt. Joseph Carrington's Company Infantry for 1 year after that enlisted in Capt. Charles Harrison's Artillery after that term ended he immediately re-enlisted at Camps landing near Norfolk in Capt. Pearce's unit of artillery.

 

He is a tailor by trade and is not able to follow his trade for the want of sight. He has five in his family besides himself, to wit. his wife aged 52 years, very infirm and not able to support herself, 4 children to wit.: Nancy aged 24 years, Thomas aged 16 years, Hugh aged 14 years and Susanna aged 12 years.

Susan Robertson Widow's Pension Application February 11, 1839 Buckingham County, Virginia Superior Court

Susannah Robertson widow of Hugh deceased the third day of May 1833.

 

Eleventh Day of August 1834

Susannah Robertson widow of Hugh dec. late presented certificate of Pension from War Department & proved by Thomas Wright and Thomas S. Wright

 

11th day of Febry, 1839

 

Susan aged about 69 years (illiterate) does not remember day and year of marriage, but knows it was in January by Parson Sanderson in Powhatan County in support witness Richard Robertson who knew them to live together as man and wife over a twenty-three year period of their acquaintance. David A. Robertson also witness.

 

John Ligon on Tuesday 12th of March 1839 appeared in court and testified "that the said Ligon aged 62 years being duly sworn saith that Susan Robertson is his sister that he recalled his father going with Hugh to the clerk Office of Cumberland for the purpose of a marriage license to marry his sister and afterwards the said Robertson going to Parson Sanders of Powhatan County to be married."
