At a Superior court of Law continued and held for Buckingham County on Tuesday the 19th day of September 1820.
On this nineteenth day of September 1820 personally appeared in open court Being a Superior court of and for the county of Buckingham being one of the counties comprising the seventh Judicial Circuit in the State of Virginia, Hugh Robertson aged sixty nine years and upwards who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his own make the following declaration in order to oblige The provision made by the acts of Congress of the 18th of March 1818 and the first of Mary 1820. That he the said Hugh Robertson enlisted for the term of one year 1775 or ’76 as a soldier of the revolutionary war in Capt. Joseph Carrington’s company of infantry in the state service for one year. After that time expired he enlisted with Capt. Charles Harrison of the artillery, at the end of that enlistment he immediately re-enlisted at Camps landing near Norfolk in Virginia in Capt. Pearce’s company of artillery for three years which was attached to Colo. Charles Harrison’s regiment of artillery in the line of the State of Virginia on continental soldiers enlistment. That he continued to serve in that corps for three years when he was discharged form the said service at Morristown in the State of Pennsylvania. He was in the Battle at the Long bridge (sic should be Great Bridge) where Capt. Fordyce was killed. He was afforesaid (sic) with Colo. Harrison at Gwins Island. He was with the army at Valley Forge. He was in the Battle at Monmouth. He was marched from Monmouth to the White Plaines, and was there detached from Harrison’s and put under the command of Colo. Crane at Providence, was then marched to Newport and was there at the Seige (sic) of Prescot’s (sic) army, from whence he was marched to Morristown into winter quarters and closed his continental service. He was with the Virginia militia at the close of the war at Yorktown in Virginia. And that he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services. And in pursuance of the act of the 1st of May 1820 made in open court the following oath. I do solemnly swear that I was a valid citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any measure disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby to diminish it so as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled “An Act to provide for certaine persons engaged in the Land and vital Service of the United States in the revolutionary war “ passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor any persons in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due me, nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto assessed and by me unabridged. To wit: one mare 7 head of cattle 7 head of small hogs. – He is a tailor by trade and is not able to follow his trade for the want of eye sight, has five in family besides himself, to wit: his wife, aged 52 years, very infirm and not able to support herself, 4 children to wit: Nancy aged 24 years, Thomas aged 16 years, Hugh aged 14 years, and Susanna aged 12 years dependants and not more than able to support themselves.

This court doth certify that Hugh Robertson who made a declaration of his services as a soldier for this county on the 19 day of September last was at the time and had been for ten years previous a resident of the county, as appeared by the testimony of two credible witnesses. I Rolfe Eldridge clerk of the county court of Buckingham in the Commonwealth of Virginia do hereby certify that the above is a true copy from the records of the said county courts.
