Jimmie Lou Mullinax Phillips in a letter received 04/18/2002 writes:
I have been calling some of the children of Craylon's brothers and sisters. I am working on filling in the gaps on our generation and their children and grandchildren. I did however glean some insight as to the character of Jack Phillips and his beloved Azza. He was a very hard working man, a small man, and Azza a small woman with black hair and brown eyes and dark complexion, very energetic. Jack would play his fiddle every evening after a hard day’s work in the fields no matter how tired he was. (My Charles plays his guitar every day no matter how tired he is, says it relaxes him. I'm sure it worked the same for Grand Pa Phillips.) Azza was a very kind person, never seen to lose her temper. She had 13 children and never spoke a cross word to any of them, (typical of most of the Mundy women and I've heard the same spoken of her mother Elizabeth Shadburn.) Of her daughters I have met, Lena, Willie Lee, Grace and I think Ruby they all favored their mother, but Aunt Lena had a temper like a wild cat. She could be very bossy and in charge of every thing, but she also had a gentler side reserved for those she loved dearly. Woodfin Phillips (Azza’s and Jack's son) stood about 5' 7" black hair brown eyes. Chirley was about the same height but wiry thin.
