| Hi, Last year one of my staff found a lone grave in a very secluded area of the campus where we work in Madison Heights, Virginia (near Lynchburg) at the Central Virginia Training Center. ...When you look at the picture of the headstone, the writing took us a while to interpret, but it says: IN MEMORY OF LEWIS MUNDY WHO DIED FE B. 4 TH 1856 AGE 30 Yrs I have contacted the historian at our institution who is in charge of maintaining the cemetery records and she said there is no record of this person, but she is doing some research for me. The grave (1858) predates the opening of the institution (1911) by over 50 years, however, so I am not surprised there are not campus records. Hardly anyone on grounds was aware of the existence of this grave, so I am trying to see why it is here by itself in such an unusual place.... We were trying to locate any information about this person. I was wondering whether your family was related and/or whether family members knew of the existence of this grave. I have located several Mundys in the local telephone book and will try to contact them as well. Thank you. Lynne Daurelle |
